What is the laws with gold panning, where can i do it.?
so i want to do some gold panning in sonora and i really can find to much info on the legal process of doing it, can i do it on park land or what, i know private property is private property but do i have to buy the land before i start to dig, keep in mind if i do find a nice spot i would want dig a little deep (5 feet max) unless i rent a backhoe but then i think i would be getting pretty serious and thats down the road but how do i get started is mostly what i want to know.

You’re certainly right about private property !! If I caught you panning on MY land in Calaveras County, the law gives ME any gold you obtained as well as charging YOU with trespassing. AND there are plenty of areas up there that are Bureau of Land Management owned, BUT have existing mineral claims. We don’t SHOOT claim-jumpers any longer, but…
