If I caught you panning on MY land in Calaveras County, the law gives ME any gold you obtained as well as charging YOU with trespassing.  AND there are plenty of areas up there that are Bureau of Land Management owned, BUT have existing mineral claims.  We don&#039;t SHOOT claim-jumpers any longer, but...
